Humber College’s Professional Writing and Communications (PWC) post-graduate students are ready to become your virtual placement students. Over the course of the placement period, students will work on projects of your organization’s choosing.
Each student is available for up to 400 hours of placement between May 2nd and July 29th 2022.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, student placements can occur virtually with the assistance of various remote communications tools.

Note: Virtual placement positions can provide remuneration to the student (e.g., salary, honorarium). Typically, the hourly rate ranges from minimum wage to $20/hourly; however, if possible, you are always welcome to provide an honorarium or stipend
Benefits to the employer and what our students can bring to you
Our Students: Students have completed two semesters of post-graduate study, thereby obtaining a solid base of theoretical and technical skills, which can now be applied to your communications goals.
Planning: A PWC student (your intern!) will meet with your organization representative(s) to devise the project scope and specify learning objectives. This plan will be shared with the PWC program’s placement advisor for reference.
Execution: The student will work remotely (standard fulltime hours) on the deliverables outlined in the project plan(s) over the period of the internship. In addition to assigning remote work and responding to student questions, employers are to complete an employer midterm evaluation as a check in, as well as a final evaluation once the student has completed all assigned projects.

What can our students do for you?
Are you looking for a writer to create and manage engaging and persuasive communications-based content from the planning stage through to completion? If so, you’ve come to the right program: Our students are skilled writers and communicators who can provide expertise in areas such as drafting, storytelling, editing, pitching, interviewing, and conducting research.
Through collaborating with live clients over the course of two semesters, PWC students have gained valuable hands-on experience in media writing, social media management, project management, and design.
Program Outline
Beginning in May, a post-graduate student of the Professional Writing and Communications program will be paired with your organization to work within your communications department – or with your content-creation team – for a minimum 400 hours. Students can be engaged in one larger-scale project, or they can work on a variety of communications tasks.
Students in the PWC program come to us highly qualified: All students are university graduates, and some hold a master's degree. Many of them have prior writing experience
PWC students can help your organization or company
- Tell its story
- Write creative and accurate copy (e.g., marketing or catalogue copy, unit brochures and inserts)
- Create, edit, and schedule e-blast campaigns as well as manage lists
- Compose tweets, Facebook posts, Instagram stories and other social media writing
- Create communication campaigns to boost brand awareness and online engagement
- Conduct analyses of all social media accounts
- Plan, organize, and coordinate communications and project activities (e.g., develop presentations and marketing materials, create communications logos for upcoming events, etc.)
- Perform data analysis for project proposals and communications reports
- Fact check content for magazines, editorials, annual reports, briefing and event notes
- Revise, copy edit, and proofread documents
- Compose and edit any manner of email communications.
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:
Assigning remote work sufficient for a minimum of 400 hours for the student.
Establishing a dedicated contact who is available to answer periodic emails or phone calls over the duration of the project to address students' questions, and provide answers to questions relating to the operational side of the business.
Completing a midterm evaluation assessing the student's progress and submitting a final evaluation once the student has completed all assigned projects
Providing availability for a quick video call or email with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope as an appropriate fit for the course
