Learner goals and capabilities

The Workplace Integrated Learning Project (WILP) Project is the major integrative learning activity of MSMG5000Y which provides students with the ability to earn credits. The course integrates learned management academic theory with a practical learning experience by connecting students with an applied, community-engaged project. This component will engage students for 80 hours and the other 80 hours will culminate with a student generated report and professional presentation.

Through Advance Ontario, the WILP Project will provide eligible students internship opportunities to help develop real-world, in demand skills. Internships are hosted remotely with Ontario employers, specifically from the Durham region, who are eager to mentor the next generation of talent.

Powered by Riipen, the world's leading online work-based learning marketplace, students are paid to complete projects each spanning 80 hours over 2-8 weeks.

STUDENTS MUST BE INVITED TO JOIN ADVANCE ONTARIO. Students can request access to this program here.

Important points

  • Project deliverables will differ based on scope, but a comprehensive report or other assets should be produced by project completion, aiding your business goals.
  • Regular communication with students enhances project outcomes.
  • If confidentiality is key, consider having students sign an NDA using our agreements feature. They can still submit work on the platform by uploading redacted samples, using the worklog feature, and writing a brief project reflection.

Project Examples

Let's talk about project specifics! Aim for 80 hours of work. Here's a briefing on how to make your project stand out:

  • Advance Ontario is all about short, remote projects that are project-based, not job postings. Explicit, focused scopes are the name of the game.
  • If you opt for a template from our library, add details of your business context for a personalized touch. Any template-based projects need to incorporate customization to get the thumbs up from us. While students will collaborate with you, your project description should stand alone in conveying the project's scope. Precise details ensure that students and projects match up beautifully.

Remember - project acceptance doesn't guarantee student applications.

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Companies must provide ongoing supervision and respond to any questions students may have to ensure optimal results.

Companies will evaluate the students’ final project submissions within 5 business days, offering feedback.
