Virtual Internship Opportunity - Co-op Education Program

Bring on one or more students from the Software programs at Mohawk College to be your virtual intern! Students will work on one or more projects of your choosing over the work term, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.

*Students are available between January-April 2022 and require a total of 420 hours. The # of hours may be reduced to a minimum of 280 hours depending on the COVID-19 situation. The wage set is based on minimum wage in Ontario, but rate per hour can be negotiated and should meet minimum wage standards in your province. Payment is necessary for student interns: they will be hired as employees of your company

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Deliverables will vary depending on the scope of the project, and might include: documentation, code change suggestions, prototypes, a fully-functioning website, a fully-functioning application, and final presentation of findings. The student should work 420 hours or more with your organization by end of April 2022, ( some exceptions dependent on COVID 19 restrictions).

Project Examples

Project examples may include, but are not limited to:

  • Website Development - Conduct a needs analysis to determine which platform is most suitable; create a design proposal including mock-ups, budget, and timeline; build a fully-functioning website.
  • Application Development - Select the best technologies for creating the application or feature (i.e. a real-time chat function); create a fully-functioning application.
  • Software Evaluation (e.g. new CRM) - Conduct a needs analysis; research available options; evaluate the options within the context of your organization's budget, immediate needs, and projected needs.
  • Real-Time Data Visualization - A charting system with basic querying functionality; A dashboard to visualize key performance metrics of your organization or tool
  • Database Analysis - Decrease query execution time; change ORM code in hotspots to more efficient SQL.
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Employer will be required to complete two evaluations on the students’ performance. One mid-way through the co-op and one at the end of the co-op. This is a requirement for the student to get their co-op credit. Evaluation is provided by the college via the student.

Employers are encouraged to interview students, however, this is not a mandatory part of the process.

These are paid employment opportunities. The college approves the co-op opportunities based on its relevance to the students academic program.
