Project Summary:

This practicum class provides capstone development of professional skills in work preparation, cover letter development, senior exit interview, program examination, professional website creation and presentation, business plan, employment, and digital (website) portfolio with the completion of personal artistic philosophy, professional website, video reels, photo galleries, and curriculum vitae for the dance practitioner.


Project Objectives:

  • Students will be able to express themselves with written and oral communication.
  •  Students will demonstrate an understanding of the importance of civic engagement in a global society. 
  • Students will create a business plan and website that will include vital information in order to market themselves to society. 
  • Demonstrate an understanding to write and format job-related documents. 
  • Demonstrate an understanding how to engage in the interview process. 
  • Create a business plan.
  • Organize photo/video gallery of performances and choreographies.
  • Present websites and business plans.
  • Students will learn how to use social media and other design products to develop marketing materials attached to their branding and/or their company' branding.

What would your company get at the end of the Experience?


We, Brenau University Department of Dance, will allow seniors to work with industry leaders/organizations to gain a better sense of the business side of the arts. In return, the company/organization that works with us on this project should be able to  gain insight on what future employees need and what they can offer to that particular organization. In addition, a internship or employment can be established to deepen the career pipeline development.

Project Examples

1. Artistic Statement - Students will create and/or re-write their artistic statements to share and discuss their nature of the work.

2. Professional Website - Students will create professional websites with biography, dance training, choreography video clips, photo gallery, contact information, calendar, and newsletter. 3. Business Proposal - Students will create a business proposal in order to obtain a loan or grant to begin their own business venture.

4. Curriculum Vitae/Resume - Students create a CV/Resume for the professional use in obtaining employment, grants, and publicity.

5. Senior Portfolio - Students will compile their CV, artistic statement, teaching philosophy, programs from every performance they performed, choreographed, and assisted with technical production.

6. Senior Exam/Interview - Students will be given an exit exam with questions ranging from technique terminology to historical facts. An exit interview will be conducted by the dance faculty during exam week to understand and acquire the student’s experience as a dance major.

9. Conduct Professional Interviews – The student will be given a list of professional to interview. The student must compile a list of questions regarding preparation, skill development, marketing of self, finances, goals, experiences, networking, etc. Class Schedule 10.
