Details

The Main objective of this project is to create a methodology for integrating open datasets into dynamic mapping features that allow users to better understand how the world around them is layered in a geo-spatial sense.

Students will be asked to create a system to collect, clean and organise open datasets from major municipalities in order to create a data rich data visualization and management microservice that can be displayed on a map or in tables with an object oreinted build. the tool should allow users to update and interact with datasets.

Deliverables

In order to complete this task students need to:

  • review a catalog of datasets available from the city of Toronto and 3 other cities of their choosing (we have access to a discord server of potential users and can direct students to cities with high interest)
  • pull, clean and organize data into silos and sets based on their application in a map display (organization will provide a breakdown of use cases for various datasets available at the municipal level)
  • develop features to display and organize data on map that would help users do the following: find and access public services, access infrastructure , understand soil composition and drainage patterns, navigate/ explore local flora and other significant landmarks both natural and man-made
  • create tools that enable data set update and review
Mentorship

Our organization will provide students will direct communication to our in-house developers via slack, weekly calls and support, cover the cost of any additional software services needed to complete the project.

students will be in weekly contact with our technical team: http://www.azeemhussein.com/resume + 2 developers, 1 back end, data science focused dev

Supplementary Documents +Mock-up Designs will be provided by the organization, students will have opportunity to continue with the project after term and receive compensation if retained post launch and fundraising efforts. (to be enabled by product launch)
