The main goal for the project is to understand the company and product carbon footprint of HAY! Straws, which specializes in making drinking straws from straw and plant stems, as well as bamboo cutlery. The focus will be on the carbon sequestration of the product and the overall carbon footprint of the company.

This will involve several different steps for the students, including:

- Gathering data on the materials used in the production of the straws and cutlery.

- Analyzing the manufacturing process to determine the energy consumption and emissions.

- Calculating the carbon sequestration potential of the materials used.

- Assessing the transportation and distribution process to understand the carbon footprint.

- Comparing the company's carbon footprint to industry benchmarks and standards.

- Providing recommendations for reducing the carbon footprint and increasing carbon sequestration.

By the end of the project, students should complete the following list of activities:

- A comprehensive report on the carbon footprint of HAY! Straws' products and company operations.

- Calculations and analysis of the carbon sequestration potential of the materials used.

- Recommendations for reducing the carbon footprint and increasing carbon sequestration.

- A presentation to the company stakeholders summarizing the findings and recommendations.

Final deliverables:

- All source materials and data used for the analysis.

- A written report explaining the methodology, findings, and recommendations.

- A presentation slide deck for the stakeholder presentation.

Students will work with the company owner and will be supported in gaining access to all the information and data they need to complete the project.
