The goal of this project is to review and upgrade the technology used by Petra Mayer & Associates Consulting Inc. This will involve several different steps for the students, including:


  • Analyzing the current technology used by the company.
  • Researching and evaluating new technologies that could be used to improve the company's performance and have positive impact on the budgeting line of subscriptions.
  • Developing and document a plan for implementing the new technologies and/or technology replacement.
  • Supporting the implementation process and testing the new technologies to ensure they are working properly.
  • Creating documentation and training materials for the new technologies.
Deliverables

By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:


  • Understanding of the current technology used by the company, where they may overlap, what drives productivity and what hinders it. Specifically, this project will look at:
  1. Corporate email, Microsoft and web hosting
  2. Subscriptions for desktop publishing, documentation, cloud storage
  3. Linking of hardware
  • Understanding of technology and subscription options, keeping in mind budget implications
  • Providing insights that help decision making
  • Documenting the process for implementing the new technologies or transitioning subscriptions.
  • Ideally, support the transition process.
  • Testing of the new technologies to ensure they are working properly.
  • Creation of documentation and training materials for the new technologies.


Final deliverables should include:


  1. A written report detailing the analysis of the current technology and the evaluation of new technologies.
  2. Presentation of decision making factors to allow for decision by business owner, considering budget implications.
  3. A plan for implementing the new technologies.
  4. Documentation and training materials for the new technologies.


Mentorship

Typically I define the support needed with the student(s) in a kick-off meeting, setting a schedule for online meetings for the duration of the project. In this case that may be weekly meetings.

As I have set up the infrastructure and identified the systems used personally, I have some expertise in the area and know the changes that would have positive impact. However, the purpose of this project is to get some unbiased opinion that will likely identify new opportunities missed so far.

Everything will be discussed in meetings on a group or 1-1 basis to support students fully.

LinkedIn references will be given to all participants in this project that are active and collaborative.

Local (Vancouver, BC) based students may be invited to come on-site for the hardware component of the project (optional).
