Details

Our firm provides advisory services to companies and individuals on alternative dispute resolution. In recent years, there has been a growing trend in international dispute resolution towards transparency and free access to information provided in hearings.

This trend emphasizes the importance of making all information related to a dispute available to the public, particularly to academics and practitioners. With the recent advancements in technology, most of the written data, such as pleadings and court/tribunal decisions, are available on various platforms. Several providers offer impressive facilities that make accessing this information easy and quick.

However, during the Paris Arbitration Week 2023, one of the keynote speakers highlighted the need to make video recordings of proceedings available to the public. While many institutions have already released their recordings of proceedings, there is no platform that gathers all recordings from various jurisdictions and categorizes them. Such a platform could be useful for parties and practitioners to evaluate the performance of attorneys and adjudicators. Additionally, it could help the new generation to learn about professional proceedings.

We would like to collaborate with students to adopt the latest artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques to source, categorize, tag, and index recordings from recognized institutions. We have a list of these institutions available in our database for a pilot version of the platform. Students will develop an AI/ML model related to any of the aforementioned adoptions.

The project will involve several steps, including

  1. conducting background research on our existing products,
  2. gathering data for the pilot version of the platform,
  3. researching the latest AI/ML techniques and adapting them to the gathered data,
  4. developing an AI/ML model that provides unique insights into the data,
  5. and providing multiple solutions that can be applied to solve the same problem.
Deliverables

By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:

  • Understanding of the available data and the best way of collection
  • Understanding of the latest AI / ML techniques
  • Identification of ways in which AI / ML can be applied to our company

Bonus steps would include:

  • Providing multiple versions of potential models

Final deliverables should include

  • A pilot version of the platform, the problem solved, methodologies and approaches, outcomes and results, and recommended next steps.
  • Source materials such as code and workbooks.
Mentorship

Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:

  • The current data set and guidance in navigating it
  • Current legal industry standard approaches to AI / ML
  • Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter
  • Working as the project manager with the company depending on the result of the pilot version.
