Details

Learners in this project will be challenged to design user interfaces and experiences that communicate and drive engagement towards social impact initiatives aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They will work on projects aimed at addressing pressing social and environmental issues such as poverty, inequality, and climate change through education and awareness.

By the end of the project, learners are expected to have developed a deep understanding of how to leverage design principles and tools to create intuitive, visually appealing, and impactful digital platforms, websites, and applications. They will have honed their skills in user research, usability testing, and gathering feedback to inform design decisions. Additionally, learners will have gained practical experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams, maintaining design systems for consistency, and ensuring seamless implementation of designs across different platforms.

This is a great chance to use your design skills to drive positive change and contribute to meaningful social impact initiatives.

If you're excited about using your design skills to drive social change, we'd love to hear from you!

Deliverables

Learners will be incentivized to apply the following tasks to help drive more traffic to the website and increase user engagement:

1. User Research

  • Conduct surveys, interviews, and usability tests to understand the needs, preferences, and pain points of the target audience.
  • Analyze user feedback and behavior data to identify areas for improvement in the current website design.

2. Content Audit and Strategy

  •  Review existing website content to assess relevance, accuracy, and effectiveness.
  • Develop a content strategy that aligns with the organization's goals and audience needs, ensuring clear navigation and accessibility.

3. Information Architecture

  • Define the website's structure, including navigation menus, categories, and subcategories, based on the content audit and user research findings.
  • Create wireframes and sitemaps to visualize the website's layout and organization, optimizing for easy navigation and content discovery.

4. Visual Design

  • Develop a cohesive color palette that aligns with the organization's brand identity and conveys the desired emotional tone and message.
  • Select primary and secondary colors that complement each other and create visual hierarchy, ensuring readability and accessibility.
  • Design visually appealing and consistent UI elements, such as color schemes, typography, icons, and imagery, to enhance the website's aesthetics and brand identity.
  • Develop high-fidelity mockups and prototypes to demonstrate the proposed design changes and gather feedback from stakeholders.

5. Accessibility and Inclusion

  • Ensure that the website design meets accessibility standards, making it usable for people with disabilities.
  • Incorporate inclusive design practices to accommodate diverse user needs and preferences.

6. Responsive Design

  • Implement responsive design techniques to ensure that the website is optimized for various devices and screen sizes, including desktops, tablets, and smartphones.

7. Performance Optimization

  • Optimize website performance by minimizing loading times, reducing server requests, and improving overall speed and responsiveness.
  • Conduct performance testing to identify and address any bottlenecks or issues that may affect user experience.

8. Call-to-Action Integration

  • Identify key conversion points and strategic locations for call-to-action (CTA) buttons and forms throughout the website.
  • Design visually compelling CTAs that encourage visitors to take action, such as signing up for newsletters, accessing premium content, or joining the community.

9. Usability Testing and Iteration

  • Test the redesigned website with real users to evaluate its usability, effectiveness, and satisfaction.
  • Gather feedback and iterate on the design based on user insights, making continuous improvements to enhance the overall UI/UX and drive more traffic to the website.

10. Analytics and Monitoring

  • Use our Google analytics to track user behavior, traffic sources, and conversion rates.
  • Monitor key performance metrics regularly and use data-driven insights to refine the website design and content strategy over time.
