Through this field placement (practica), students have gained the skills to work within the field of media and communication, both on and off campus. In addition to their work experience, students meet regularly as a class to explore workplace issues and communication challenges. Our students demonstrate leadership skills in public speaking, visual presentation, and group interaction.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Deliverables will depend on the employer and project types. Results fall in the categories of writing, visual media (graphic design, photography), film and video production, interpersonal aspects such as team training and coordination.

Project Examples

Project examples may include but are not limited to:

a) mass media (e.g. television, radio, film, video, magazines, and newspapers)

b) business and professional communication (e.g. public relations, technical writing, report and proposal writing, advertising copy, etc.)

c) interpersonal communication (e.g. counseling, leadership opportunities, coaching, cross-cultural experiences)

d) public address (speaking, preaching, debating, teaching, worship leading, interpretation, etc.)

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

A representative of the company will be available to guide the student and provide feedback and direction in a timely manner, for the duration of the project.

A representative of the company will be available for a pre-selection discussion with the administrator of the course to review the project scope.
