instructional design research artificial intelligenceThe main goal for the project is to assist Summations' instructional designers in providing instructional design support to university professors and instructors. This will involve several different steps for the students, including:
- Collaborating with instructional designers to understand the needs and requirements of university professors and instructors.
- Assisting in the development of instructional materials and resources for various academic subjects.
- Conducting research on effective instructional design strategies and best practices.
- Providing feedback and recommendations for improving the Summations instructional platform.
- Creating engaging and accessible content for learners using AI-generated digital textbooks.
What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?
By the end of the project, students should complete the following list of activities:
- Collaborated with instructional designers to develop instructional materials and resources.
- Conducted research on effective instructional design strategies and best practices.
- Provided feedback and recommendations for improving the Summations instructional platform.
- Created engaging and accessible content for learners using AI-generated digital textbooks.
Final deliverables should include:
- A report detailing the research conducted and the recommendations provided.
- Samples of instructional materials and resources developed during the project.
- Presentation summarizing the project findings and outcomes.
To support students in completing the instructional design project effectively, several key resources and strategies will be provided:
- Staff Time: Dedicated time slots will be allocated for students to consult with instructors, teaching assistants, or subject matter experts. This ensures that students receive guidance, feedback, and clarification on project requirements throughout the development process.
- Access to Tools and Technology: Students will have access to a range of instructional design tools and technologies necessary for project development. This may include software for creating multimedia content, learning management systems (LMS), graphic design tools, and video editing software. Access to these tools will be provided either on-campus or through remote access, depending on the students' needs.
- Access to Data: Depending on the nature of the project, students may require access to specific data sources for research and analysis. Access to relevant databases, scholarly articles, research papers, and educational resources will be facilitated through the university library, online repositories, or subscriptions to academic journals. Additionally, students may be guided on how to collect their own data through surveys, interviews, or observational studies, with appropriate ethical considerations.
- Training and Workshops: Workshops and training sessions will be organized to enhance students' skills in instructional design methodologies, pedagogical approaches, and technical competencies. These sessions may cover topics such as curriculum development, learning theories, assessment strategies, multimedia production, accessibility considerations, and project management. Guest lectures by industry professionals or experienced practitioners may also be arranged to provide insights and real-world perspectives.
- Peer Collaboration: Opportunities for peer collaboration and peer review will be encouraged to foster a supportive learning community among students. Group discussions, peer feedback sessions, and collaborative projects enable students to learn from each other, share best practices, and provide constructive criticism. Peer collaboration also promotes teamwork, communication skills, and a sense of accountability.
- Regular Progress Monitoring: Regular checkpoints and milestones will be established to monitor students' progress and ensure that they stay on track with their project timelines. This may involve submission deadlines, progress reports, or presentations where students showcase their work-in-progress and receive feedback from instructors and peers. This feedback loop helps students identify areas for improvement and make necessary revisions to their project plans.
