Could tell that everyone worked very hard on the project. The presentation was a good summary of t he work done by all and gave the listeners things to think about and consider

Team feedback
Many of the barriers were investigated and suggestions were made for improvements. Great job on that! Once suggestion to consider is to partner more closely with the Sponsor companies to target improvements that might relate more to the unique situations that Sponsor face. But since there wasn't an opportunity to work directly with us, that wasn't an option so it certainly can't be found as a negative in any way.

Great effort to your group for taking on the stats portion of the presentation. This gave you a glimpse of what the data might look like for a study. I was happy to see that your group talked about real-world barriers like child care and transportation. Some medical facilities and research studies will provide free or discounted transportation for their patients or participants, respectively. This is a great way to lessen the burden for the patients / participants. Continue to explore other ways that researchers decrease participation burden.

Feedback includes Identifying Barriers - Team 3: Elora C., Amelia H., Jessica L., Marina S. Team 3 you did a great job finding the barriers that came from the historical injustices and aligning them with the Amgen data. Your thoughtful curation of the information allowed us to see the message perfectly clear. I really appreciated the inclusion of the SDOH aspect as that is a big barrier that is hard to address! Great job!

Increasing Diversity in Clinical Trials

Clinical Trials are essential steps to bringing new products to market, ensuring their safety and efficacy. It is crucial to involve a diverse range of participants from various communities in these trials, because where we live, how we live, and our backgrounds can impact health outcomes. Additionally, the safety and effectiveness of medications can vary based on factors like age, ethnicity, sex, and race.   One significant challenge faced by iBIO’s members is ensuring diverse representation in clinical trials. When certain groups of people are underrepresented in research, it can lead to gaps in our understanding of their health. This lack of diversity can perpetuate a cycle where new treatments are most effective for the group that was studied the most.   We are seeking recommendations for how to improve diversity in clinical trials to reduce biases, promote health equity and produce more innovative science. Your challenge is to develop a comprehensive strategy to promote diversity and representation in clinical trials. This strategy should address barriers such as limited access to healthcare, cultural perceptions, educational disparities, and systemic inequalities. The ultimate goal is to achieve equitable participation across demographics, ensuring everyone has an equal opportunity to contribute to these critical research endeavors. These recommendations should demonstrate an understanding of the complex issues driving the current lack of diversity and consider recruitment as well as retention strategies. Consideration should be given to legal and ethical principles of clinical trial research.
