Portage College offers the Career Internship 1 course, a unique opportunity for second-year students to gain practical work experience in their field of study. Through this 100-hour work placement, students will apply classroom learning to real-world projects, enhancing their career readiness. The course also includes 30 hours of employment training to help students prepare for the workplace. As part of their learning, students will engage in tasks that help them build valuable professional skills such as communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

Students in this program are highly motivated and eager to learn while contributing to meaningful work. They are expected to demonstrate initiative, responsibility, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a professional environment. The main goal of this course is to prepare students for their future careers by giving them hands-on experience in a work setting related to their academic and career aspirations.

At the conclusion of the internship, students will provide the employer with the following deliverables:

  • Final Report: A comprehensive report summarizing the project, key findings, and any recommendations for the employer. This report will highlight the students' problem-solving approach and solutions.
  • Final Presentation: A professional presentation where students will share their project findings and recommendations, providing an opportunity for the employer to ask questions and provide feedback. This session will be conducted virtually.
